Careers
Parmenter Law understands the importance of attracting and developing new talent: Our work environment fosters professional and personal growth through mentorship. We welcome inquiries from law students, attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants who are interested in joining our practice and our work family. For law students, our summer clerkship program offers broad experience in all practice areas and we familiarize them with our community.
Parmenter Law Summer Clerkship Program
Each fall, we recruit law students for the summer program through on-campus interviews. In our summer program, law students complete a 10-week rotation through our Elder Law, Business, Real Estate, Estate Planning, and Public Sector practices, working for two weeks in each practice area. At the beginning of each two-week assignment, the law student is assigned a mentor in the practice area. Litigation exposure occurs throughout the 10-week period. Clerks will go to court with Parmenter Law attorneys to gain experience appearing in municipal prosecution matters through the Public Sector practice, as permitted by court rules.
Practice exposure and experience is not the only benefit of a clerkship at Parmenter Law. We also make sure our clerks get to know our region by participating in community events. We want to ensure that our summer clerks learn what life is like to live and work in Muskegon.
Each fall, we recruit law students for the summer program. Offers for the next summer's program are extended by the beginning of the following year. We welcome direct inquiries from law students at other schools, as well as requests from other law schools to participate in clerk recruiting programs.
New Attorneys
When a new attorney joins our Parmenter Law family, the mentorship continues. The attorney has the opportunity to work in and experience all practice areas. Eventually, the attorney identifies his or her areas of interest and talent, and the firm identifies specific practice area needs for the attorney to fill.
While most new attorneys are hired after participating in our summer clerkship program, we also welcome inquiries from other new law school graduates and experienced attorneys interested in making a lateral change into our practice areas. Decisions are made on a case-by-case basis.
Paralegals and Legal Assistants
Our paralegals and legal assistants at Parmenter Law are a valuable part of our family. If you are a paralegal or legal assistant interested in our practice, we encourage you to submit a resume and cover letter expressing your interest and experience.
